Protecting and restoring our Olympic forest
and aquatic ecosystems

Collaboration on the Olympic National Forest

OFCO has taken the leadership in forming a collaborative group to work with the Olympic National Forest staff. Under an Act passed by Congress, a collaborative group may be formed to work on restoration projects. A small timber sale (69 acres with no more than ½ road miles), whose location and general prescription are decided by the participants, allows the receipts to stay in the project area (instead of going back to Washington, D.C.) and the group then chooses restoration projects (in this case primarily road decommissioning). The District Ranger is the ultimate decision-maker.
