OFCO Announces “JD Gallant Fund” to Save and Protect Quilcene and Dabob Bays
JD Gallant dedicated his life’s work to protecting our local environment. Working alongside his partner of 48 years, OFCO President Connie Gallant, JD spent his time, and money, to protect our local marine waters. JD founded local non profits that monitored and raised the alarm on the deteriorating conditions in our local waters. As a result of his work, OFCO brought a lawsuit (OFCO v. Coast Seafoods (Pacific Seafood), that won before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, requiring Pacific Seafood to apply for a permit for its operations on Quilcene Bay.
JD worked also on the county’s Conservation Futures Committee to direct funding to restoring local salmon rivers and forests in Jefferson County. JD’s unstoppable energy and commitment inspired many environmentalists. We lost JD to a sudden illness in September, 2021. OFCO is proud to continue JD’s work to protect Quilcene Bay.
