SB 5111, Pit-to-Pier
The following message was received from Washington Environmental Council. If you have not done so already, we urge you to act on it right away. Contact Senator Jim Hargrove (or your Washington state Senator) and let them know that SB 5111 threatens our waterways and our safety in one of the most sensitive areas of Puget Sound—our Hood Canal!
Dear Friend of Washington’s Environment,
Every legislative session, we see attacks on environmental laws and attempts by special interests to cut corners. This year is no different. Today we are working to stop a bill that would fast-track the infamous “Pit-to-Pier” project, SB 5111, that would threaten the health of Puget Sound and Hood Canal.
Help stop this bill dead in its tracks today.
The Pit-to-Pier project is massive, with major impacts to Hood Canal, one of the most sensitive areas in Puget Sound. The project involves a four-mile-long conveyor belt to carry gravel from a mine to a 1,000-foot-long, 80-foot-high pier. It would result in increases in vessel traffic and jeopardize an important project to protect the area.
SB 5111 is awaiting a floor vote in the Senate.
Will you contact your Senators to urge them to oppose the bill?
We can’t afford to let special interests cut corners to advance projects that harm our environment, increase pollution, and carry many other impacts that deserve careful review.
Can we count on you to stand up for the Sound?
Thank you for standing with us and for all that you do for Puget Sound!
