Marbled Murrelet – “Rare Bird” Book Signing/Presentation
Book Signing/Presentation by author Maria Mudd Ruth
The North Olympic Sierra Club Group, in conjunction with Olympic Forest Coalition and Admiralty Audubon, are bringing Maria Mudd Ruth, author of Rare Bird, to the North Olympic Peninsula.
Join Maria for an inspiring presentation on this threatened seabird. As one of the only seabirds that traverse both land and sea, the Marbled Murrelet lives a double life, blending the ancient forests with the salty seas. Come learn about a bird that has become as controversial and celebrated as the Northern Spotted Owl. Enjoy Maria’s well-crafted story as she explores the biology and politics around one of Washington State’s most threatened sea-birds.
Olympic Forest Coalition and Seattle Audubon recently won a lawsuit to protect 12,000 acres of Marbled Murrelet old growth habitat from a DNR clearcut in southwest Washington. The court ruling stands until the agency adopts the Marbled Murrelet Long-Term Conservation Strategy required by the Habitat Conservation Plan. This presentation will be part of a celebration in honor of that effort. Please join us!
